What types of aluminium foil can be recycled?

Aluminium foil is used in many ways and can be recycled.  Foil items can include:

• kitchen foil

• Foil milk bottle tops

• Baking and freezing trays

• Take away and ready meal containers

What can’t be recycled

Silver look packaging such as crisp packets and chocolate wrappings. Do the scrunch test to be sure.

How to recycle aluminium foil

Aluminium foil can be recycled in different ways dependent on your local recycling services. In some areas you may be able to recycle aluminium foil with your cans, in others it is collected separately.

To determine if something is aluminium you can do the scrunch test: if the foil can be crushed or scrunched up, and does not spring back into shape, it is probably aluminium. If it bounces back then it is plastic NOT aluminium.

Please make sure all aluminium foil and containers are clean before being recycled.
