Coffee Makers and Kettles
If you forget to turn off your coffee maker, buy a
timer in order to cut the coffee maker during "off-peak" hours.
Some coffee maker models have a special regulator
that cuts, after 2 hours, the electric resistance used to maintain the
coffee at a constant temperature. Another solution is to choose a coffee
maker or a kettle with a thermos (insulated bottle) which will keep the
coffee warm enough without requiring energy.
1.
Always turn off the coffee maker when you have drunk your coffee,
otherwise the electric resistance will carry on working without purpose.
2.
Specifically, kettles should not be completely filled but should have
the approximate quantity of water required.
Photocopiers
A photocopier uses approximately 75 % of its overall
energy consumption for heating up the melting drum, only about 15 % for
electronic controls and 10 % for drives and illumination.
Turning the machine off when not in use provides,
therefore, a considerable reduction in heating power consumption.
Even when switched off, photocopiers consume power.
This can be avoided by "pulling the plug" or using
an automatic timer to interrupt the power supply.
However, ensure the safeness of such measures by
contacting your supplier.
When buying a new photocopier pay particular
attention to the energy requirements indicated by the manufacturer and
consequently, give preference to energy saving appliances! These are
often marked with a special label in order to enhance consumer
recognition.
Paper production requires energy. The economical
use of paper thus also reduces energy consumption. For drafts or
personal copies the reverse side of printed paper may be used.
When not in use, photocopiers should be
turned off if possible. Newer machines feature waiting times of only
about 15 seconds to reach working condition again.
